ABOUT THE ATLETICO MADRID FAN CLUB IN GERMANY
Creating a new fan club for a sports team is always a challenge, especially when it’s abroad. Those of us who embarked on the adventure of creating a new Atletico de Madrid fan club in Germany knew from the start that it wouldn’t be easy, but we got to work anyway.
One of the things that was most difficult for us to decide was the name. There were many ideas (some as original as “Peña Ribera del Rin,” a nod to the Manzanares River), but soon we were sure that we wanted a name that perfectly described what we wanted to be, without any adornments or adjectives that could lead to confusion. “Peña Atlética de Alemania” is the ideal name that represents who we are: a fan club that helps and represents Atletico de Madrid supporters in Germany. Nothing more, nothing less.
Finding the ideal logo was also not easy. We knew what we wanted, but we couldn’t quite figure out how to represent it. It was Alberto Cuartones, a graphic designer and friend of one of the founders of the fan club, who illuminated us by hitting the nail on the head on the first try.
Our logo shows the map of Germany completely covered by the Atletico de Madrid crest. On either side of the map, representing the dynamism of the fan club, are two tricolor stripes representing the German flag. Our name forms the square circle. The typography used is the ATM Metropolitana, an Art Deco-style model designed specifically for the club, based on the one used by the club for tickets and posters at the old Metropolitano stadium. Atleti essence with just the right touch of Germany.
