A PEÑA WITH TRADITION IN THE SOUTH

Reaching 57 years as an official Peña is undoubtedly a reason for celebration, and that’s exactly what the Peña Atlética de Pozoblanco in the province of Córdoba did. More than half a century cheering on our Atleti deserves a grand celebration, and we were lucky enough to be invited.
Along with Encarni, president of the Peña Atlética de Pablo Barrios and a personal friend, we set off and stayed at her sister’s house, who lives near Pozoblanco. We arrived on Friday the 14th, and the celebration was planned for Saturday, March 15. Around 11 in the morning, we met up in Pozoblanco with Juan José, president of the Peña, and he had the brilliant idea of showing us how COVAP, a dairy industry, operates. The guided tour was excellent and left all attendees amazed by the experience and the hospitality we received.
After a walk around the beautiful town, we headed to the shooting range, where a large meal was planned for all the members. The restaurant’s large hall was reserved for them. The welcome was overwhelming, and we immediately felt as if we were at our own Peña. Juan José invited both of us to sit at the presidential table alongside the Peña’s board of directors, which filled us with pride and gratitude. Before the meal, their annual update took place, covering financial statements, projects, and achievements. We could see that it is a Peña running at full capacity with a rich history behind it; many of its members are already from the third generation.
They treated us to a delicious meal accompanied by excellent wine, and for me, the best part was the dessert: small cakes decorated with pictures of our players. You could say I ate de Paul and Julián Álvarez — there was no room left for Oblak. Afterward, a lively raffle was organized where various Atlético-related items could be won, and once all the prizes were handed out, the party gradually came to an end.
We returned home grateful for the top-notch hospitality and for having met such wonderful people who are part of this great red-and-white family that we all belong to. So, from here, a huge thank you to the Peña Atlética de Pozoblanco for treating us so well, and congratulations on running a Peña with such transparency and honesty.
