PRESENTATION OF ‘MERECE LA PEÑA’
On September 12, 2025, as part of the Atlético de Madrid Supporters’ Clubs Day, a very special event took place at the Cívitas Metropolitano Auditorium: the presentation of the book MERECE LA PEÑA. Así son las peñas del Atlético de Madrid.
The presentation was led by none other than the author herself, Carmen García, the President of our Atlético de Madrid Supporters’ Club in Germany, and a true expert on the world of Atlético peñas. She had been personally invited by the Club—an honor that not only recognized her work as a writer but also her years of dedication to the Atlético supporters’ movement. For the Germany Peña, it was a source of immense pride that their president was the author of the first major book to so fully and movingly portray the life of Atlético’s peñas.
The event was attended by high-profile figures including Diego Pablo Simeone, Koke Resurrección, Enrique Cerezo, as well as the top leadership of the Club’s social department, with Fernando Fariza and Óscar Mayo at the forefront. It was the perfect stage to unveil a book that many pointed out was “long overdue,” since until now there had never been a work that captured with such warmth and authenticity what it means to be part of an Atlético peña.
During the ceremony, both newly founded peñas and those celebrating anniversaries were honored—an emotional collective moment in which the author felt surrounded and supported by the entire Atlético family.
Following the official event, there was a book signing session, where the author engaged with fans and listened to their impressions firsthand. The peñas embraced the book with enormous enthusiasm, recognizing themselves in its pages and celebrating that, at last, their passion and dedication had been immortalized in print.
The evening continued with a beautiful reception, which became the perfect opportunity for reunions and new encounters. It was also a chance to finally put faces to many peñistas who had previously only been known through chats and social networks, strengthening bonds that had been built from afar. It was a moment of closeness and friendship that gave the day a very special meaning.
The celebration was marked by shared joy: book sales soared, confirming the huge anticipation the work had already generated. It was an unforgettable party filled with conversations, hugs, and meetings with people who live and breathe Atlético de Madrid with all their hearts.
The presentation of MERECE LA PEÑA was not only a literary event but also a confirmation that the peña spirit is alive and strong. A long-awaited book that, thanks to the work of the President of the Atlético de Madrid Supporters’ Club in Germany, has become an essential tribute to those who, all over the world, keep the Atlético spirit alive.
